When asked what the birthstone of March is, the automatic reply is Aquamarine. What a lot of people don‘t know is that the month of March actually has two birthstones: Aquamarine and Bloodstone.
Although the two stones have a very different appearance, they share a similar repuration for protecting one’s wellbeing.
With colors ranging from deep green-blue to light, slightly greenish blue hues, aquamarines depict colors of the sea. When faceted, they tend to be free from inclusions and as clear as water, symbolizing purity of the spirit and soul.
Blood stone, on the other hand, is typically a dark green cabochon that contains red spots of iron oxide. This represents the “blood” that brings health and strength to the wearer.
Although we don’t have any bloodstone jewelry, we have a growing collection of beautiful aquamarine stones.
